The Ruckus Theater
The Ruckus is a transplant of Kalamazoo, MI based in Chicago's Rogers Park neighborhood. We are made up of actors, directors, playwrights, musicians, casting directors, publicity managers, grant writers, baristas, grad students, music directors, baby teachers, poets, computer fixers, appointment-makers and census-takers.
We aim to develop new work and the artists who create it..
Backstage with the The Ruckus Theater
Well, it's funny now: during a performance, a group of actors were preparing to make an exit through the audience, and realized that an audience member in their path had had an accident of the unpleasantly runny and smelliest variety. Because actors are amazing and wonderful, they soldiered on and managed to dodge the swiftly spreading pile-puddle-hybrid, and because he is also amazing and wonderful, Adam Webster stayed after the show and helped our artistic director clean it up. Moral: always have rubber gloves handy, and be nice to Adam Webster, always.
The Oasis. It's in Rogers Park at Sheridan and Pratt. Two words: Themed. Karaoke. Also, the KJ is named DJ Bacon. Cheap drinks, decent jukebox, best bartenders ever.
We are firmly committed to developing not just new plays, but the people that make them as well. We challenge each other and the artists we work with, and aim to help both the play and the artists working on it grow with every production, workshop, reading, and experiment.
Our projects all get birthdays. First reading, first rehearsal, first performance, and last performance. There's a cake with candles, and then we all sing happy birthday to the play and drink cheap champagne.
We can never reveal the Wu-Tang secret.
